A Day on the Farm

There was a baby calf born on the farm a few days ago.  The Mama Cow didn't make it, so my Dad and the other guys on the farm have to feed him with a bottle.  He asked if we all wanted to come out and watch him feed the calf.  Oh, and he asked my little buddies to help too.  My first thought was, "This should be interesting."  So off we went to feed the baby calf!


Dad usually doesn't name his calves.  He used to, but he said every time he named them, they died.  (For example, on election day in 2008, he had two baby calves born.  They were both brown/black calves, so he named them Obama and Michelle.  They passed on shortly after, so he stopped naming them.)  We all decided that we should name this calf.  Trevor wanted to name him "Pig" because when he would moo, he sounded like a pig instead.  Kendall wanted to name him "Moo" because "That's all he does anyway!"  Denise decided to name him Carl.  Bonus points to whoever can tell me why she chose Carl by looking at his tag number.

Here are a few of the photos I took today.  It was quite entertaining watching the kids and my Dad bottle feed this baby calf, or Carl as Denise calls him.

It was pretty neat to see the Carl the Calf eating.  I would chalk this up as a pretty good day!

Bonus points go to whoever guessed that the calf was named after Carl Edwards.  He is the driver of the #99 Nascar car.  

Kadance's Belated Birthday

We love, more than anything, being with our family and friends.  We love getting together for birthdays, holidays, and sometimes we even make up excuses to get together.

On St. Patrick's Day, we had dinner with Autumn, Nick, and Kadance.  Kadance turned four on March 8.  Nick had her the following Wednesday and Thursday, but we couldn't make it to see her and get her gift to her.  We decided we would get together on March 17, good ol' St. Patrick's Day, to celebrate her birthday.  (Plus, who wouldn't enjoy a whole week devoted to celebrating the day of their birth?)

We made it out to Autumn and Nick's apartment, and Kadance was very excited to see us!  We let her open her gift before we ate dinner.  I think she enjoyed it!
We gave her Disney Princess Color Wonder markers and book.  At first she said she wasn't allowed to have markers, but I assured her that these markers were okay because they will only color on special paper.

Nick and Autumn made a great meal.  We even had green beer.  

Brady wanted a green beer too, but Nick decided to give him this:

Irish Trot

I forgot to add this in my post about St. Patrick's Day in Ireland.  


When my family decided to all participate in the 5K, Denise had the idea to make t-shirts in memory of my brother.  St. Patrick's Day in Ireland was his favorite time of the year.  He always enjoyed going to the Shamrock and spending time with his friends while enjoying a few (or more) green beverages.  When Denise mentioned the idea to me, I was on board and started designing a t-shirt.  We ended up loving the design.

I know he was with each one of us during the race.  We all think of him every day, and we are telling Trevor and Kendall all about him so that they feel as if they know him.  I know he would be very, very proud of the both of them. 

St. Patty's Day

Hi!  My name is Lacey, and I love St. Patrick's Day.

I grew up in a small town called Ireland, Indiana.  It is only natural to me that St. Patrick's Day is sorta a big deal.  When I was younger, our small town had a big celebration for our favorite holiday.  There was a parade on Sunday and a lip sync contest following the parade.  The weather was almost always horrible, so they stopped the celebration.  Then last year, they brought it back.  Ireland is a town of only about 1000 people (or less), so when they brought it back, we knew it would be great.

I'm so happy they decided to bring back the celebration.  This year I participated in the Irish Trot 5K race (I walked.  I'm not an overachiever.), browsed the small craft show, voted for Mayor for a Day (I'm a little upset that Kurt "By Golly" Brescher didn't win), and attended the parade.

My little buddies have decided that they also enjoy St. Patrick's Day!

 I'll share a few of my pictures from the parade. 

The kids thought these $1 million dollar bills were real.  Trevor couldn't believe it, and Kendall said that she was going to take her money to Wal-Mart to buy a new Barbie. 

St. Patrick's Day in Ireland was great!  I can hardly wait until next year!

March Cuties

We have had a very busy weekend, and we feel like we've traveled all over the state.

On Tuesday March 1, both my best friend and close cousin had baby boys!  I knew I had to go and see them as soon as possible.  Since we were helping with the cleanup from the tornado, we didn't get to go as soon as we would have liked.  So this weekend, we went and saw them both.
 

Our travels started on Friday.  We had an appointment at the IU Prenatal Diagnosis Center to coordinate the research study at the Mayo Clinic.  Once we got all of that out of the way, we had lunch at Steak 'N Shake (who can pass that up!?), did a little shopping at Circle Center Mall, and then we were off to Nashville, IN to see baby Alex Clay Wilson.  Alex's parents are my best friend, Lisa, and her husband, Ralph.  I happen to have the honor of being Alex's godmother.  I am so excited.  :)  Here are a few shots of Alex.  

After our visit with the Wilsons, we went up to Indianapolis to meet with an adoption agency.  It was a general information meeting, and we learned so much!  We're glad we went.  We then drove from Indy to Evansville to meet Connor David Purkey, my cousin, Shannon, and her husband, Ryan's, new addition.  He's quite the cutie too!  

I hope to teach these two a lot over the years!

Our weekend isn't over yet!  We have a few things we want to do today before we both go back to work tomorrow.  Hopefully I have another update soon!  Enjoy your Sunday! :)
